Van Lohuizen Library - Art History: South and South-East Asia

This has as its main focus the art history of the countries of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), and includes books on archaeology and the history of architecture. There are special sections on sculpture in stone, bronze and terracotta, and on painting, including early Indian wall painting, as well as miniatures of the Rajput and Mughal schools. There are also useful sections on epigraphy and numismatics. A major theme of this library is the spread of Indian art into adjacent countries and in this context special sections on the art history of Gandhara, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Nepal and Tibet. Southeast Asian extensions of Indian art are well represented, and there is a major collection of books on Indonesia, including important volumes in Dutch.
